What “slop-inion” means
A simple explanation of slop-inion and why it shows up.
Slop-inion refers to opinions that are generated or shaped quickly, often using AI, without much depth or original thinking. They tend to follow familiar patterns, echo common takes, or sound plausible without adding anything new.
For example, a post might present a confident view on a topic, but on closer look it repeats widely circulated ideas or relies on generic phrasing rather than a clear perspective.
Part of the reason is how easy it has become to produce content. When generating an opinion takes seconds, the volume increases, but the level of thought behind each one doesn’t always keep up.
The result is a stream of views that sound considered, but don’t always move the conversation forward.
So the question becomes: when opinions are easy to produce, how do we recognise which ones are actually worth listening to?
