What “agentic AI” means

What agentic AI is, how it works, and where it’s starting to show up.

Agentic AI describes systems that don’t just respond, but act. Instead of waiting for prompts, they can decide what steps to take to achieve a goal, planning, using tools, and working through tasks in stages.

You might ask for help booking a trip, and rather than listing options, the system compares flights, books tickets, and updates your calendar. The shift is subtle, but important.

AI moves from something you use to something that acts on your behalf.

That can be useful. It also changes the dynamic.

If a system is making decisions or taking actions, who is responsible? And how much control do you really have once it’s set in motion?
