What agentic AI is, how it works, and where it’s starting to show up.
Agentic AI refers to systems that can take actions on their own, rather than just respond to prompts.
Instead of answering a question, the AI can decide what steps to take to achieve a goal. That might include planning, using tools, or completing tasks across multiple stages.
For example, an AI assistant might not just suggest travel options, but actually compare flights, book tickets, and update your calendar.
This changes the role of AI from something you use, to something that acts on your behalf. That can be useful, but it also raises new questions.
- If an AI makes a decision or takes an action, who is responsible?
- And how much control do you really have once it’s in motion?
