The AI wine fridge that decides what you should drink

There’s now a wine fridge that uses AI to recommend what you should drink. It looks at what’s inside, what you’ve chosen before, and sometimes even what you’re eating, then suggests the “best” bottle to open.

On one level, it’s easy to dismiss. No one was struggling to pick a bottle of wine, so it’s not solving a clear problem. But that’s what makes it interesting.

Most of the conversation around AI focuses on bigger shifts like automation, productivity, and job impact. This is different. It’s AI stepping into a small, everyday decision, and instead of replacing something difficult, it’s removing a moment of choice.

That might sound trivial, but it starts to add up. If AI begins to take on more of these small decisions, what to watch, what to wear, what to eat, what to drink, the role of the technology shifts. It’s no longer just a tool you use when you need help. It becomes something that quietly shapes preferences over time.

Not by forcing decisions, but by making them easier to accept.

There’s also a subtle question underneath it. If a fridge recommends a bottle and you enjoy it, is that your choice, or the system’s influence? And if you keep following those suggestions, how much of your taste is still your own?

It’s not that an AI wine fridge is a problem. But it does show how AI is starting to move beyond solving tasks, and into shaping the small decisions we used to make without thinking.
