What Is AI Fatigue?
As artificial intelligence becomes harder to avoid, another term is starting to appear alongside it: AI fatigue.
AI fatigue describes the sense of exhaustion, frustration or disengagement people can experience from the constant presence of AI. That might come from trying to keep up with new tools and developments, being encouraged to use AI at work or simply encountering AI in more and more parts of everyday life.
For employees, it can also come from the pace of change. One tool is introduced, another launches a few weeks later and new features continually appear in software people already use. Add training, policies, headlines and predictions about how AI might change people’s jobs, and it can quickly become a lot to process.
Why Does It Matter?
AI fatigue doesn’t necessarily mean someone is resistant to AI. They may use the technology regularly and still feel overwhelmed by the amount of attention it demands.
That’s an important distinction for organisations introducing AI. If people appear less enthusiastic about another AI tool, training session or initiative, the answer isn’t necessarily to push harder for adoption. Sometimes people simply need time to understand which tools are genuinely useful, where AI fits into their work and what they can safely ignore.
As AI becomes a more normal part of everyday life, perhaps one of the challenges won’t be convincing people to pay attention to it. It will be knowing when they’ve had enough of hearing about it.
