What “AI workslop” means

A simple explanation of AI “workslop” and how it differs from AI slop.

AI workslop refers to low-quality AI-generated content used in everyday work tasks. Unlike general “AI slop”, which tends to show up publicly as spammy or mass-produced content, workslop sits inside organisations, in emails, reports, summaries, and internal documents.

It usually looks fine at first glance. The tone is professional, the structure is clear, and the output feels complete. But on closer inspection, it often lacks depth, leans on vague language, or misses important context. It’s content generated quickly, with minimal input or review.

The difference is partly where it shows up, and partly how it’s used. Slop is often about volume and visibility, filling feeds, websites, or platforms. Workslop is quieter. It sits in day-to-day workflows, shaping communication and decisions in more subtle ways.

For example, a team might rely on AI to draft updates, summarise meetings, or prepare reports. Individually, each piece might seem useful. But over time, if everything is slightly generic or slightly off, the overall quality of thinking can start to flatten.

That’s what makes workslop harder to spot. It doesn’t feel obviously wrong, just slightly diluted.

Which raises a bigger question: if AI helps us work faster, how do we stop it quietly lowering the quality of what we produce?
