Decoded Thinking

The AI wine fridge that decides what you should drink

There’s now a wine fridge that recommends what you should drink. It looks at what’s inside, what you’ve picked before, sometimes even what you’re eating, and suggests the “right” bottle to open.

It’s very easy to roll your eyes at. No one was sitting there thinking this is the decision I need help with. But that’s kind of the point.

A lot of the AI conversation still centres on the big shifts like automation, productivity, and jobs. This isn’t that. This is AI slipping into a small, everyday moment and quietly removing it. Choosing a bottle of wine isn’t hard. It’s just yours.

And when you start stacking those moments,; what to watch, what to eat, what to buy, the role of the technology shifts. It’s no longer something you reach for when you need help. It starts shaping what feels like a natural choice, not by forcing anything, but by making one option slightly easier to say yes to.

There’s a question sitting underneath it. If the fridge suggests a bottle and you enjoy it, does that matter? Probably not. But if you keep following those suggestions, where do your preferences actually come from?

It’s not really about wine. It’s about how quickly AI is moving from helping us decide to quietly deciding with us.
